TADAA planned and held a training for our Klickitat County youth prevention teams. Prevention groups from Klickitat, Lyle, White Salmon, Goldendale and Glenwood schools were all present. Youth connected through team building activities. Prevents, Matt Cox, trained youth on using the new peer to peer training about tobacco use and vaping. Youth groups all had the opportunity to present during this hands-on training. They can then use this training within their own schools to train their peers about the facts and effects of tobacco use and vaping.
Youth also had the opportunity to share projects that each group had worked on over the last year in their schools. Some prevention groups had projects ready to share at this year’s WA Spring Youth Forum, which ended up having to be cancelled. This gave them the opportunity to not only share their own work, but to hear how other youth in our area are working on prevention efforts. Youth gained knowledge, shared ideas and encouraged this prevention work to continue on in Klickitat County.
We hope to continue this annual gathering of Klickitat County youth and will be rotating to different communities each year so that youth can learn about each youth groups area of the county, school and challenges that they are facing and trying to address around substance use.
